I'm not the one stating that there wouldn't be any reaction if you burned the tricolour in public. You stated:

"Who are you and why should I give a ******************** what you think about my opinions, you stupid ********************?"

    and subsequently:

"I don't think homosexuality should be banned. Does this mean I'm obliged to ******************** you?"

So you obviously do care what I think.

Please quote where I said that. Which posting?

    *waits*

You can't, because I didn't ******************************g say any such thing and you are putting words in my mouth (*). What I actually said was:

I think you'll find the issue of flag-burning, while it preoccupies our American brethren, doesn't cause any excitement here.
See? Quite different. The US has had proposed constitutional amendments on flag-burning:

Flag Desecration Amendment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It has had Supreme Court judgements on flag-burning:

Texas v. Johnson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You can read up about various court cases and congressional testmonial hearings here:

    A Brief History of Flag-Burning

Now, until you prove to me that the Irish Supreme Court and the Dail have had as much debate about flag-burning here as the US had, then I think the statement flag-burning, while it preoccupies our American brethren, doesn't cause any excitement here is fact and you are just being a boringly opinionated troll pretending otherwise.

    P.

(*) femmefatale does that too. Why don't you two get a room?

Far worse things have been done to our flag in this country than burning it and no one gets arrested. It has been regularly draped on the coffins of criminals and murderers for a start.

Precisely. We might not like it. But we don't look for it to be banned. We form opinions. That doesn't mean we make those opinions dogmas to be obeyed. They're just our opinions. And the opinions of the religious are no more important than anyone elses

I'm not going to rush into an answer on this but the gut says no. I'm back to the whole stoic thing again - why let it bother you? The act says more about the person doing it then I does of you or indeed the state whose flag they are burning.
I'm still not buying you're whole stoic forbearance argument, Cato.

I just heard today that there is a 'flasher' operating in my area. If he decides to target me, should I just be stoic about it or would I be entitled to feel affronted?
