SF release statement concerning criminality

May as well start this thread before one of the Anti-Shinners do, so...

What are peoples opinions on the statement released by Sinn Fein which says that todays hijacking of a lorry load of vodka in Meath is regarded by the party as "criminality", and should be dealt with through the Gardai and the Courts

If they WERE IRA members, and the hyjack was not orderd by the IRA, and these guys get locked up, will the IRA condem them?

That's a new one on me : The IRA "authorising " the Gardaí,explicitly or not.

No, it would reflect badly on the IRA tho, if they are not distancing them selvs from criminals.

What would be the governments response to the DUP who wished to make an issue of it ?

If the IMC said it was not IRA directed I'd love to see the DUP come up with an answer to that.

So everytime a lorry load of vodka or fags gets knocked off the IRA has to make a statement condemning it and saying the Gardai should deal with it?

It certainly reflects badly on the calibre of people who signed up to "the Army".

The more senior the volunteers were (are?), the more it makes the IRA look like a group prone to common criminality.

And of course the IRA aren't responsible for the unauthorised jaunts of its members. But the IRA probably brought these men together and certainly provided training. They've got something to answer for.
