Whether this woman’s daughter (real or imaginary, I would fall on the side of imaginary) died from FMG is none of our business. The simple matter is she is a trespasser who is in our country illegally and she should have been deported long ago. Nigerians have no business coming here illegally; we have no ties with Nigeria and absolutely nothing in common with them. All this nonsense will have to stop, we are borrowing silly money just to keep the country afloat, and we have far too many drains on our meagre resources without paying out money to foreign scam artists who have no business here or right to be here.

Under the Dublin Convention, individuals must make their application for asylum in the first EU country that they enter. Since its entry into force in 1997, this Convention has proved to be unworkable. Efforts are being made at EU level to revise the Convention; however, in reality, the proposed changes largely retain the substance of the original agreement. This Fact Sheet outlines the some of the challenges which are inherent in the Dublin Convention procedures and puts forward recommendations for reform.

It is our business. If her daughters were to be subjected to FGM both she and they should allowed stay. Anything else would be barbaric and reprehensible. She should be deported because A) She is a liar and B)She should have claimed asylum in the UK where she first landed.

    What "new material" is this?

    The story in today's Indo?

Mr Gormley described calls for the resignation of his cabinet colleague as "absolute nonsense". He said Mr Lenihan was doing "a very good job under exceptionally difficult circumstances".

    (2) Even if she never had a dead daughter, do we now punish her children by sending them back to be mutilated? It does happen to girls over there you know. If we send them back, then we're one of the parties that made it happen. It would be better if they were mutilated here in a hospital then sent back. Is that what you want?
Her children were not mutilated. Don't tell me that between Nigeria and Ireland there aren't other countries she could have stayed in relative safety. If Nigeria is such a dangerous place why did Rotimi Adelbari return there temporarily on a visit to receive a reward? You need to take the PC-blinkers off. If there are European countries that have a special responsibility to the former colonies they are the former colonial powers like Britain, France etc. Not us. And in any case, we must be mindful of precedent. Asylum is costing the country €370 million (according to official from Dept of Justice on Oireachtas Report this week) per annum.

And for the umpteenth time, in consideration of your being hard of hearing: this has nothing to do with ethnicity. It has to do with abiding by the law, and respecting the sovereign right of this nation to decide who may and may not enter the State. Illegal entry constitutes a violation of that sovereignty.

It's would be great if some people could muster a fraction of the outrage they manifest against an asylum seeker against the crooked developers, bankers and politicians who have caused real damage to this country.

So every barbaric practise inflicted on people all over the world is our business? Girls being flogged in Saudi Arabia because they were raped etc? No she and her daughters are here illegally, they should never have been allowed to land in the first place. Kick them out now, and do it very visibly.
