Poor is one thing she definitely is not what with maids at home in Nigeria. Virtually all of those coming from Africa to claim 'asylum' here are upper middle class in their home country. Virtually none of them are 'poor'.

Sorry posters on a last note, we are a nation of immigrants, whether we did it legally or illegally, we did it for the same reasons this lady did. Documents were always falsifed if you were illegal. We should be trying to get amnesty for these people, yes there are dodgy irish ( God do we know this now) and yes there are dodgy immigrants that come into our country. To make a better life, my point is this stop the arrogance and look at our own history, no one chooses to do these things because oh wait I just might like to emigrate for the fun??? Most people have decided this for very good reasons, I left Ireland in the 80s took my kids to the USA for a better life. I was illegal, I made money and came home and reinvested it, I kept people off the dole for many years. I understand the reason with the lady completely, I dont condone what she did, but I do understand it

The Anglo-Irish would have played a part in the officer class, it's true.
Correct but the fact remains that contribute we did. But as stated, this is a side issue that probably warrants it's own thread.

Straw man alert. What reasonable people are saying in this thread is that any Nigerian (African ? ) female under 18 who manages to find her way here will have to be given right of residence and means of support. Parents travelling with these girls will have to be similarly accommodated. As Nigeria has a population of 130 to 140 million the number of females in that category is about 20/30 million, and we can double that when parents are included. Nightmare or what ?

More pathetic ranting and BTW there are many in Ieland, even today, that regard themselves as 'British' and not Irish and 'who have no difficulty at all with 'their British' history. This of course is a side issue that I would have no difficultry debating with you or any one else, however the only issue here is the fact that if this family is deported there is a danger that they may become victims of FGM. That and that alone is what any civilised humane person would allow to inform opinion on this jmatter. Your attitude to this case would suggest that you have little 'love' for Ireland or anything else.

The solution was always to close the borders, and screw the EU. I lied, I stole, but should I let other steal from me, lie to me, or hit on me?

The time has come for real leadership!

Correct me if I am misunderstanding the point here, are you suggesting that if the Minister, acting on humanitarian grounds, permits these three people to stay in Ireland, the fall out will be that 20/30 million women will descend upon us?
