My understanding was she was referring to the interview itself and not her legal representatives deserting her.

No matter what, this lady will push and push, and will probably claim that the forged documents were necessary because the legitimate documents could not be procured without a bribe. She was able to afford to come all the way here, so why did she not pay for the documents instead of the shenanigans of her husband procuring false ones, which must have cost something to a forger anyway!
She has also failed to answer why she did not have the documents in the first place, which doesn't make sense if she was travelling to a foreign country for asylum.

This stinks to high heaven, and I wonder will Pamela now claim that to return to Nigeria is dangerous for her, not because of FGM on her daughters, but because she will be arrested by the Nigerian authorities for forgery. Wait and see, that will be the next defence.
Looks like her scam may backfire on her, but she can't use evading prosecution as a case for asylum

You can't claim asylum on the basis of committing a criminal offense, particularly as it corresponds to an offense in Ireland. Uttering a false document.

I want to write to that fool and give him a piece of my mind. He's symptomatic of all that is cossetted and lousy in RTE.

As regards the woman in the evening, Mary somethingorother, she's just a twit. Her "interviews" with Pam and the pamettes were farcically incompetent.
Contact the Pat Kenny show, he works on that show. Email them looking for Boucher Hayes to explain himself in the light of the Tribune article.

    Go Raibh Maith Agat.

Of course if he "explains" himself in the face of sycophantic interviewing by Kenny, nothing will be achieved.

We need someone like yourself or Catalpa to grill him.

Corelli, I appreciate that asylum cannot be claimed if one is escaping one's country having committed an offence, my point was, judging by the comments made on radio this morning, that Ms. Iz may claim that she lied to protect her children, every illegal thing she did was to protect her children, "so don't send me home to be arrested when all I did was try to protect my kids in the face of bribery and corruption in my home country"
Cue plucking the heartstrings of the nation again. Nothing would surprise me in this case.

Correct. It's a pity we do not have a more diverse media like the U.S. A rival TV station would run a programme quoting the "interviews" done by RTE and quoting their news "reports" on the subject. The public ridicule would force resignations for gross incompetence.

No such luck in Ireland I'm afraid.

Didn't some men from Afghanistan get leave to remain after admitting rape and murder in their home country, on the grounds they would be executed if returned home?

Not that I have heard of but there are several cases decided by the ECtHR which prohibits signatory states from deporting people to countries where they would face execution. Soering & Chahal are the cases that come to mind. I don't particularly have a difficulty with that though those cases were sorted on the basis that the US gave binding guarantees that the individuals would not be executed.

Curiously when the Sunday Times approached him he refused to speak to them unless . . . um . . . they paid him €5K!!!

The doctor also claimed to the Mirror that she had no other children but the two living with her in Ireland. In fact, she has a 17 year old son in Nigeria. The doctor also claimed not to have been the man interviewed on RTÉ some time ago. RTÉ insists he was, and say they contacted him through the hospital to do the interview.

The doctor on the one hand said he had not been involved in the case, then later said he regretted being involved all through the case!!! Was he involved or not?

    Something is very fishy.

Whatever the truth about her story, the doctor seems to be someone who is not a reliable witness. Refusing an interview with a newspaper unless they paid him €5K is very very suspicious and does appear to support her husband's claim that legitimate documentation could not be provided as bribes had been demanded that the family could not pay.

The whole thing is very very strange.
So how much do you think the Gardai paid him?
