The media's reaction to all this should be interesting. Has RTE/Pravda covered the story yet? What about the Lisbon Times - will it have coverage? I think that the reputations of various journalists as being objective reporters are now in question and that this will cause a shift in the tenor of reporting in the Irish media. Some of these more gullible journalists will seek to reinvent themselves and distance themselves from their past positions on this farce. I haven't heard O'Gorman's attempt (as mentioned earlier) at distancing Amnesty International from this but the issue has now become downright toxic for any organisation that either relies on the good will of the people for donations or relies on state support for its existence.

Well RTE/Pravda were obviously unaware of this story as of 9 PM anyway as they failed to mention it all...

But then who likes to throw egg over their own face?

    Now there's a surprise.

But then who likes to throw egg over their own face?
They are probably too busy covering Art gallery events.

I'm sure facial egg is a form or surrealist art, no?

Probably a bit too realist for Pravda. I hear they prefer more abstract stuff.

O'Gorman was on Matt Cooper's show saying that this "new" testimony was suspect and saying that the Irish government had never queried the bone fides of this woman's story before - they just didn't care if deportation meant her daughter's would be mutilated.

You can listen to the podcast - it's the first item

It was covered on Drivetime - Phillip Boucher Hayes' interview with the doctor, which contradicts his most recent statement, was replayed.

A very good point. Many posters on here took the same position.

It struck me that given the evidence now seems to suggest the doctor was pressurized to change his story by the Nigerian government it should in fact strengthen the womans case for asylum. It would appear that not only her daughters would be at risk if she were to return to Nigeria but she herself could well be targeted.

Hadn't thought of that angle but it's a definite point. You'd have to be really naive to believe there isn't a very likely possibility this doctor was forced to change his statement.

Also, the doctor's new statement said Pamela never had a child before the year 2000 and said Elizabeth could not have been born. In fact she has a teenage daughter who lives in Nigeria - according to Philip Boucher Hayes - so that's incorrect as well.

People are assuming this new statement is game, set and match for the government's deportation bid. I don't think it is, at all.

And was the doctor interviewed the same doctor?

I thought that she was meant to have had a son. But if she has a teenage daughter then could this teenage daughter be the child who was supposed to have died?

It is. And given the new evidence, it might mean that the European court could choose not to hear the case and the deportation would proceed. With respect to the way that you and others here feel, the people of Ireland have had enough of asylum scammers and other chancers bilking the Irish asylum system and social welfare system. The case has been fatally undermined by this evidence.
