How any one would agree to expose children to this barbarity is beyond comprehension.
You are conveniently completely ignoring that the alleged basis of her 'fear' of her daughters suffering from FGM was that her in-laws parents insistance on it as allegedly evidenced by what occured to another alleged daughter. However, the basis of that 'fear' has now been shown to be a fraud therefore there is no rational reason to believe, and in fact there is every rational reason to believe there is absolutely no risk, if the basis of the story is a complete fabrication.

Probably because the powers that be never believed her story from the outset and that her children are in no danger. If of course they are her children at all.

The conditions that exist in Nigeria are such that all female childfren are exposed to the risk of mutilation. You are simply wrong to imply or suggest otherwise and like others that post here, you should go and get the facts about the matter. There are many ways that a child can be exposed to FGM and the fact is that women and children have a very low status in Nigeria. An example of this is the report by Kitty Holland, Irish Times, of a specific case of a Nigerian woman living in Cork who was the victim of female genital mutilation when a baby and had her daughter taken from her and mutilated against her wishes. The basis of this story is the fact that FGM is common in Nigera and women and children are powerless to protect themselves from being mutilated when they get caught up in any of the many circumstances in which it occurs.

Hopi, are you rosanna flynn ?
Once again for another slow learner, a humantarion decision to allow the children to stay has no implications whatever for existing laws and the capacity of the state to react should problems arise. You are reminded of the case in which the 'floodgates' point was heard. The judge dismissed the point as irrelevent and pointed out that the state could amend and make laws at any time to meet specific problems.
Parti, are you a Kevin Myers, the son of Enoch?

It was quite worthless, you know.

And have some respect in future for the accredited diplomatic representatives of friendly African nations. I don't see you slobbering insults over the British Ambassador, you racist skunk!
Are you seriously suggesting that any scrutiny of what the Nigerian ambassador or the Nigerian government say is off limits?

This is the second time you have (bizarrely) accused me of being racist. Please withdraw that accusation immediately.

A single case in a US court... So what?

Hopi - fgm occurs in Britain.
BBC NEWS | UK | Female circumcision 'on the rise'
Would you seek to prevent the family re-settling in Britain rather tan staying here?

That is the logic of your (?) position that *any* risk to the children is unacceptable.
Mr Gormley described calls for the resignation of his cabinet colleague as "absolute nonsense". He said Mr Lenihan was doing "a very good job under exceptionally difficult circumstances".

The case is recorded and referred to and that is why the 'floodgate' defence is never used other than by the chattering classes seeking to hide behind excuses. And stop trying to be logical, it is causing you problems. Compare the prevalence between the UK and Nigeria, I think you will notice a slight difference not to mention the fact that FGM is a criminal offence in the UK while it is perfectly legal in Nigeria.

The glaring contradiction in your argument is that you want the State to make a ruling on the specifics of this case by reference to the general situation in Nigeria whereas the specifics of this case show that there is no risk by virture of the fact that the case advanced re an alleged daughter having been now shown to be a fraud establishes that there is no specific risk in this case. That is a square that you cannot circle.

This is word play. The information presented to the court was part of a package which sought to establish, as is required, a specific danger. The fact is that the high rate of FGM in Nigeria is evidence enough that the children, if deported, would be exposed to the risk of mutilation. The problems being caused here is the fact that FGM has a high prevalence in Nigeria however the court is now faced with the fact that part of the case before it is admitted by the claiment to be probably not accurate and correct. The facts indicate a high risk, at least 1 in 4. and it will be extraordinary if, in a judgement, the court was to utter that there is no risk or even only a low risk. The proper course of action now is for the Minister to intervene and indicate that a decision to allow the family to remain will be made on humanitarin grounds. That will spare us all, including this site, any further embarrasement

If this is the level those wishing deportation have to stoop too their is really nothing more to say.
