And the State has already contacted the ECHR about reversing the order against deporting the family, so it definitely doesn't look like there'll be a last minute offer of leave to remain from the Minister - which is hardly surprising; after all the time and money spent fighting the case, they're hardly going to turn around if the Izevbekhai family lose and say that they can stay after all. After the amount of time and money spent on the case, I'd be ticked off if leave to remain was offered now. If it was going to be offered, it should have been offered in the beginning, before the case was dragged through the courts for years, at considerable cost to the taxpayers of Ireland.

I thought she had two weeks to submit replying affidavits to the States, which were the new disproving evidence. In other words the matter will be listed for the Court to examine her new documents at that stage? I would imagine unless, at that stage, she has convincing new evidence, the Court will dismiss her action.

I was going on what I read in the coverage. The replying affidavits have to be submitted within two weeks. The Irish Times reported that the case was listed for mention on 30th April in order to update the court.

Our radical lefties have absolutely nobody to blame but themselves for this, this is the result of fighting continuous legal actions for non deserving cases. As i pointed out in this thread http://www.politics.ie/current-affai...eir-cause.html ,at some point they will realise they are doing their cause more damage than anyone else by their approach in these matters. As well as a few posters here RAR would be a prime example of this.

I would trust in their intentions more if they weren't simultaneously trying to force the Charter of Fundamental Rights on us via the Lisbon Treaty, which arguably could reverse everything they claim to be trying to do to tighten up the system. Fianna Fáil need to be challenged on how they reconcile provisions of the Charter such as Article 15 ('everybody has the right to work in a freely chosen occupation') with their ban on employment for asylum-seekers and tough talk on asylum to the press. I firmly believe that if Lisbon goes through, the ECJ will force us to legalise employment for asylum-seekers, as well as interfering through Article 18 (right to asylum) in individual cases on an ad hoc basis.
