Presumably there would have been more FGM going on in the 1980's, yet there we didn't have thousands of Nigerian asylum-seekers coming here then. Indeed in 1992 there were only around 15 asylum-claims for all nationalities in the entire State. That is why it becomes a certainty that this is economic-migration using FGM as an excuse. Indeed it is quite possible that some Nigerians who support FGM are using the threat of FGM as a pretext for being granted asylum in this country. I suspect our social-welfare system has a lot more to do with this than FGM.

I know and accept the incidence of FGM. What I am saying is that she has no evidence of any personal risk to her children, on the balance of things at the moment, the evidence would point to her alleged child never having suffered the procedure, died or her present children ever being at risk of same.

You are quite blinkered, if you don't mind me saying so.

That is an important point. One of these children had already lived 6 years on this earth in Nigeria and had not been subjected to FGM, which seems to undermine the credibility of the mother, not least given the forged death-cert. Another important point to make on FGM, is that even were there a 1 in 4 probability of females undergoing FGM in Nigeria, that does not tell us what proportion of the parents agreed to it. If PI and the child's father do not support FGM, then it could be argued the risk of it happening to their children becomes substantially smaller than had they supported it. Apparently, PI's own ethnic-group in Nigeria are amongst those that do not engage in this practice.

Once again, do we expose children to the danger of mutilation based on your 'suspicions'? How much do you think is this family receiving from the State? We are told that this family have a very comfortable life style awaiting them. Why do you think this family is, and has been for 4 years, residing in a shelter in Sligo living on a pittance?
Judging by other threads that you contribute to, you seem to be fixated with idea that the world and his wife are totally preoccupied with getting their mitts on our 'social welfare system'
It is also starange that when the danger issue is raised, you seem to accept that fact and go on to suggest that we should just dump this family in a 'safe' other country. It's as if you don't regard them as human beings at all.

Well if living outside of Ireland disqualified you from being a human being, 99% of the world's population wouldn't be one.

And I don't believe the children face a danger of FGM if returned home. There is no evidence that any of PI's children that can be proved actually existed underwent it, and one of them was 6 on arrival in Ireland. I think the fact that both the parents are against FGM means the children will be safe. If one of the parents were pro-FGM, then there might be a stronger case for arguing they face a threat of FGM, but that does not appear to be the case. If the likelihood of FGM happening differs from family to family, then the attitude of the parents to the practice obviously influence the likelihood of it happening.

Once again you are exposing children to mutilation based only on the 'balance of things' while the facts tell us that the chances are 1 in 4.

You are utterly wrong here, peer pressure is by far the greatest influence in these matters. The evidence regarding the exposure to mutilation is 1 in 4 and even that figure is highly suspect as it was the Nigerian government who supplied that figure to the UN. No child should be sent back to Nigeria if there is the slightest chance that they will be mutilated, repeat the, slightest chance.

If you were correct, then why was PI's daughter not subjected to FGM for her first 6 years of life in Nigeria? It seems clear there is no threat of FGM except in the fantasy-world PI's supporters inhabit. The only victim in PI's family of FGM is the one that never existed in the first place, 'Elizabeth'.

How does that square with your denial that you advocate granting asylum to any family from Nigeria, or any country where FGM is practiced?

Would you send any such family back or not?

Don't start hidding in handy foxholes, I am not a 'supporter' of PI, I am opposed to exposing children to mutilation, full stop. The children have been safe in Ireland 4 years
