    FGM and nigeria

I worked in Nigeria in port Harcourt for many years and I still have friends there and while I lived there I never heard of FGM, I only heard of it when this lady claimed this to be a reason for refugee status.
I called some friends in Nigeria last week and they said this case has been brought up in conversations but they find it bizarre are FGM is not a known practice as far as they know in Nigeria.

FGM is usually done with the consent of at least one of the parents but if the two parents are against this practice, as these two parents say they are then there is no threat, plus the fact FGM is almost exclusively done before the child is 5 years old.

This lady has used her children for her own and her husbands ulterior motives, she has done irreparable damage to genuine future refugees, she was wantonly lied to the authorities and she let government representatives go to Nigeria on a fool errand knowing she gave them forged documents, please dont tell me her husband kept this information from her, please look at this case for what it is as it is a serious case with future ramifications and this lady lied from the start not caring who she might damage in the future.

So to prove this lady is lying through her teeth send a dna team to Nigeria and disinter her daughters body, or has she conveniently said the corpse was cremated or does not know where her daughter is buried.
I bet her attorney's are feeling like fools right now.

Seems her barrister and solicitor have removed themselves from the record.

"The admission of bogus documents has led to the application by her solicitor Gabriel Toolan and her existing counsel to cease acting for her in her Supreme Court appeal against a High Court rejection of her case."

It reminds me of Soviet Russia where children were forced to take part in political-demonstrations.
the above is at the hub of the issue. i think that there must be a case for charging this woman with child abuse amongst other things as she has knowingly and thus willingly used her children in this most appalling manner. the children are possibly more at risk by being with her than by being returned to nigeria.

I fully empathise with your exasperation with those howling for the deportation of these children, but look on the bright side, this thread has outed the likes of Future Taoiseach for what they are. Small minded individuals capable of the vilest bias.

Whatever about the wrongs and rights of Izevbekhai and her case the first part of your post is rubbish. FGM is widely practiced in Nigeria so your "friends" are living in a bubble or they are lying.

So the UN, Amnesty International are mistaken then???

What parent, and particularly a mother, in their right mind would 'freely' allow their child to be mutilated?

You may disagree with Future Taoiseach but I have never taken him to be small minded or capable of vile bias. I disagree with him on this and agree with you but I do see where he is coming from. It is perfectly legitimate to want to see your country protected against scammers and chancers taking advantage of our relatively generous system. There are plenty of cave dwellers howling for these two kids and their mother to be deported and their shrillness displays sinister undertones of racism. FT isn't one of them nor are people like jmcc, Trampas etc. Horace Horse is a total bigot as are severla others.

And meanwhile a basket case economy pays for a liar (who has absolutely no business to be here in the first place) to wend her merry way through our expensive legal system.

"It's shocking that this woman has been in the High Court 20 times according to the State lawyer in today's proceedings. She is a liar and must be deported. I don't believe a syllable of her story - she is just crying wolf."

Explain the above rant, one of FT's many rants on this thread. And I draw your attention to his repeatedly referring to her as 'this' woman.
