Why don't we just run adds on Nigerian TV ?

Have those countries been swamped by asylum applications?

    Quit the hysterical scaremongering.

Indeed, although challenging this nonsense is important, I think within the context of this thread and its relevance such endeavours can become repetitive if not counterproductive.

I understand your point Clanrickard, do you not think though that in this case allowing PI to stay, who has been proven to be a liar, and overlooking her attempted circumvention of the legal system would lead to others attempting the path she took.

Either way, this case does and will set a precedent. Even if not specifically written in law by allowing an exception as you say, Ireland would essentially be motioning - we're a soft touch, come on over, tell us your fgm story, even if you lie, and we'll spend years paying for you to have a legal challenge in our courts then at the end of it all, you'll probably be allowed to stay due to the PR you'll receive along the way.

If she's allowed stay, legally the state is screwed, there's nothing to stop thousands of PI's doing the same, no matter which way you look at it.

Now you are being silly. The case of Pamela Izevbekhai has shown the Nigerian ambassador and the Attorney-general to be liars. If she goes back she might well be in trouble. In many African countries if you get on the wrong side of the wrong people unpleasant things can happen. This isn't about FGM anymore it is about her and her kids safety.

I think we will be going to africa soon rather than the other way round, so get yourself a friendly doctor lined up. Maybe the refusal of abortion here could allow you in somewhere else?

    .
Her case is specific in that it has dragged on for years. If there was a swift procedure that did and dusted all asylum applicants in say 6 months this would not have happened. There are plenty of lawyers dying for legal aid who'll concoct a story so we need to get things done quickly and efficiently. Also big big pressure needs to be put on Nigeri to stamp out this practice.

We often disagree on things and have argued on matters not related to this particular issue but I can safely say on this we are 100% in agreement.

Suffice to say I'd imagine the thing we have in common is that we are both fathers.

I have two daughters and since I saw a video of FGM taking place on a 3 year old I am utterly opposed to it. I am no fan of the pc multicultural lobby but I have even less time for the xenophobes who climb out of the swamp every time a thread appears on some misfortune foreigner. I would say something if we were surrounded by Africans but we have a relatively small amount compared to other countries and our asylum policy is considered strict by European standards.

Agreed. Nothing can distract the naive do-gooders from their crazy cause - not even perjury and fraud. I think the Nigerian TV ad is a good idea - maybe then they will get what they want and Ireland can save the world. Deluded fools.
