Madoff: 150 year sentence if he pleads guilty.

In the United States. the law is enforced, as Bernie Madoff is about to discover.

Madoff faces 150 years in prison with guilty plea - World News, Frontpage - Independent.ie

In Ireland, by contrast, there is no indication that any of the people involved in the banking scandals, particularly those involved in Anglo-Irish, will even get a rap on the knuckles.

Why is it that we are so useless at law enforcement in white-collar crime?

Madoff seems to have committed massive fraud to the tune of almost $50bn in a giant ponzi scheme. Noone has been accused of doing that here..
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

The scale of Madoff's operation was very large, I agree. But in a country where people go to jail for not paying a television licence, I find it odd that one can remove remove €87 mio. from a financial institution and park it elsewhere during a legally-required audit with the intention to distort the veracity of the auditors report and then use this money in an unauthorised fashion. Yet no sanction of any kind seems forthcoming.

We have very far to go and a lot to learn before there is justice in this country of ours.

The same government should not be voted in term after term.

    We have ourselves to blame.

They have friends in high places unfortunately. The initials FF, BA, BC & BH spring to mind.

I love the way Sky news explains - every 15 minutes - that because Madoff is over 70, he probably won't see out his full 150 year prison term (!)

Irish property was a giant ponzi scheme. The amount lost already undoubtedly exceeds $50 billion and that figure will only grow.

Presided over and facilitated by our government, their regulators and the bankers.
