Several senior Gardai have signalled their intention to retire from an Garda Siochana very shortly without reaching the maximum age.
Has this mass retirement been prompted by the threat of a pension levy?
Has it been prompted by disillusionment in that they have played second
fiddle to many more senior Gardai yet may have been overlooked for promotion?
Is there disillusionment over the direction An Garda Siochana is taking?
Or are they getting out while the going is good?
Whatever the reasons it is unprecedented in the Garda Siochana.
Will it lead to more early retirements?
Detective Chief Superintendent Tim Maher has been security advisor to Deputy Commissioners and assistant commissioners.
Chief Superintendent Dave Roche was personal assistant to two Commissioners.
Detective Superintendent P.J. Browne was an investigator in the Kerry Babies case in Kerry in the early eighties.
