I do hope that Garda Robert Mccallion has not died in vain.

I hope that those who detract from the enormous amount of good work done by the Gardai will now realise the dangers that they face every hour of every day.

Those of rank and file are not paid half enough. Officers are more than well paid; they do not have to face these dangers every day

I see that the minister for justice is preparing to promote senior Gardai just a short time after the declaration that there would not be any recruitment and an embargo on promotions.

Does this mean that the government are preparing for a general election shortly?

It has often happened that these senior promotions of younger Gardai to higher ranks happen prior to the government going into an election.
