Shell to Sea: Offences against the State Act?

If it is shown that tuesday's bomb was the work of Shell to Sea members, I think its time that the group was declared a terrorist organisation and its members arrested.

There are quite draconian laws on the statute books intended for use against people who plant bombs for political goals. Its time they were used for these nutters.

That's a bit over the top.

Charge them with criminal damage and reckless endangerment, maybe if the evidence is there. But OATS should be reserved. The law should not be an instrument of personal vengence. That's why we have blogs!

Fianna Fail gave away a valuable national resource. That surely qualifies as an 'offence aganst the state'. But the again Fianna Fail consider thenselves as the state a la Louis XIV.

If S2S were interested in the value of the resource then they shouldn't be bombing our only customer. Things have value only if someone will buy them - and bombs tend to scare away customers and lower prices.

A lot of "ifs" here seabhcan. Do you have any evidence whatsoever to back up your very serious allegation? Firstly Shell to Sea have condemned the incident unreservedly. Secondly "bomb" is not the word the Gardai used. They said it was a "device". First they said it was "viable", then a report came out that the parts weren't wired together - the parts being a plastic bottle with some petrol in it, an alarm clock and a can of spray paint, all contained in a plastic bag (details here: http://machinenation.forumakers.com/loc ... .htm#36709).

They then arranged for the army to blow this "device" up, thereby destroying any forensic evidence or prospect of tracing the purchase history of the items.

I also unreservedly condemn any nutter or other person who plants "devices" or bombs anywhere. But first catch your nutter.

I agree. And if we have evidence, we can do that. If someone is caught for the pipebomb they will S2S will disavow them. They should be done for attempted murder when caught.

Gardai should be supported. We don't want a banana republic like we had with Robert McCartney when people were too scared to come forward.

Er...lets see a bit of evidence first shall we?

We have plenty of laws from those dealing with Criminal Damage right the way through to attempted homicide that can be brought into play before the OAS should be be dusted down.

Whoever was responsible for planting the device, they should be made reflect that the street they planted it on, contains two schools, a church, several places of employment and is a major public transport route into the city centre.

A plastic bottle, an alarm clock and a can of paint do not a pipebomb make
