Government scraps plan to ban early pubs

Surprised not to see a thread on this already - apologies if I missed it.

Minister Dermot Ahern has stated that he is not going ahead with Brian Lenihan's plan to ban the fifty or so 'early house' pubs in the State that open at 7am.

    Story here

I strongly welcome this. It's good to finally see the government stand up to the health lobby who want to ban every single minor vice. It has been accepted that the early houses cause no problems in relation to violence or unsocial behaviour. Let adults do what they want, as long as they don't hurt others

This country is F----- the government are sticking their noses in to the running of all small Irish businesses, because of a minority of do gooders and the PC brigade.Have a good look at Ireland and the EU the whole area is going to come to a stuttering halt. All European governments are pampering to these bull************************ artists ,legislating, regulating the whole of EU to a stop.Every friggin day there coming out with an bunch of bollocksology stats and percentages.

A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

I have to say that this proposal was one of the stupidest ones in years. Right up there with decentralisation and Dick Roche. I mean where the fck are they coming from? From the same assmunches who threw out cafe bars. Idiots
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

This was a really stupid idea.

Now that all the big decisions are taken by Brussels, Fianna Fail/Greens' sole function in life is to annoy us.

    A Victory for Common Sense.

Though I think the Government reckons they will just disappear over time anyway...
