"Nixon is PRO-WAR and PRO-FAMILY" - Nixion's head (Futurama)
Wow, HEADS of a Bill………………and ONLY two years after McDowell promised action……and after voting down Bills from Fine Gael and Labour on the very same issue. At this rate might we have the full thing enacted by 2020 perhaps?
Yet another fig-leaf for the Greens in Government
Congratulations on getting this mammoth piece of legislation finalised. It's the most progressive piece of legislation gay people have had since decriminalisation, and I'm thrilled at the prospect of friends of mine finally beign able to validate lifelong relationship. Hooray!

Great news, and not only for same sex couples but also for cohabiting opposite sex couples. The head's contain probably more than I would have hoped for from a FF led government and there's no question that that's due to the hard work of the Greens that have been working on this issue.
And the head's are incredibly detailed. Any who attests this amounts to nothing is making a fool out of themselves. There's 172 pages of detail there - this is not the announcement of a proposal, this is a draft bill which has had a huge amount of work put into it and which has garnered the agreement of the government partners so far, which is no small thing.
Now the debate proper can start.

It is great news and it does reflect a major social reality. Attitudes in Ireland have changed irrevocably and very drastically over the last 10 years. Living with your partner is pretty much "the norm" from what I can see of the under 35s and being gay is no longer a shocking or exciting revelation that scandalises entire communities. You'd be more likely to get a bored non-reaction these days from the majority of the population. Coming out as a Dub GAA supporter in Cork would be far more of a big issue!

The bill does nothing for group relationships
Fianna Fail will allow the Irish People, to me milked like Milch Cows, by the CIF through high house prices, rents, and land prices, at the expense of competitiveness, and quality of life. FF+CIF=1
Hmm, perhaps. Even better, the delays should be minimal in that case.Originally Posted by Defeated Romanticist

As a matter of interest is there any party opposing this?Originally Posted by Defeated Romanticist

What does the Bill do for them? I'm reading it slowly and have not got to that part yet. Are brothers / sisters excluded or is that level of detail not yet covered? I haven't got that far eitherOriginally Posted by Eddiepops
