    All you had to do was give a credible explanation for not telling the Dail and Tribunal about the emails, and the DOJ sec gen quit before he had to go to any Oireachtas committee about this.
    Bizarrely Frances Fitzgerald is already on the road to rehabilitation - she's going to be the FG candidate for DMW in the next GE - so despite being the primary villain of the piece her colleagues have already forgiven her the sin of being caught.

    The civil servants in the department are now being pilloried by their political masters and have no such recourse for rehabilitation or such a forgiving peer group.

    Our politicians really are among the lowest form of pond scum.

    There will be no "vindication", but equally no demonisation either.

    If RTE want her to be president then she'll get the Frank Flannery cycle - wash, rinse and repeat until people have forgotten.

    I missed that SF originally tried to table a motion with specific changes to the Tribunals ToRs but whas ruled out of order so the just brought a motion saying the TORs should be changed, that was defeated http://www.sinnfein.ie/contents/47388
    [q] To investigate whether or not there was a cover-up and/or a suppression of documents or other information which should have been provided to the Disclosure Tribunal or other inappropriate collaboration by;

    - the Department of Justice and Equality, including officials, advisors and Ministers past or present

    -the Office of the Attorney General

    - An Garda Síochána
    one presumes that if charleton feels he was being duped he will say so ( despite his very friendly letter last week) but unless he catches them red handed he'll have to let them away with it, which they'll use as further vindication

    Get real ffs. FitzGerald will face the electorate, the civil servants will retire eventually with their lump sums and guaranteed pensions. Save sympathy for those that need it.

    Frances Fitzgerald won't face the "electorate" she'll need about 5000 votes from a constituency she's aided and abetted for a decade while 1m other voters from across the country look on in dismay, like Michael Lowry in Tipp.

    there is not enough time for that, it will take more than a pre wash to remove the stink from her cv, voters are looking as they are more tuned in
