    Extraordinary rendition

Wonderful book "Ghost plane" Stephen Grey St Martin's NY 2006, 2007 answers the questions here about torture

Yes, the Irish state colluded in torture, allowed planes thru Shannon and Dublin carrying "suspects" to be tortured - long list in appendices of flights

Some of us are used to the Irish state acting utterly illegally in issues like the music biz and academia - see seanonuallain.com - but this was definitely a new low

Does the book provide any estimate of the number of civilian lives saved due to the information extracted?

How many times have you got to be told that there is firm proof that physical torture does NOT result in credible information being obtained?!?

There is no justification for this and our govt is guilty of crimes against humanity for allowing these planes to land here.

The U.S. administration's justification for the use of torture is that they are at war and are under threat from extraordinary attacks on their cities. At a time of war, is a country justified in using torture techniques to extract information from "enemy combatants", and, should they expect the torturers to be immune from prosecution after that war is over?

I can understand that some information is inaccurate but find it hard to believe that all information is inaccurate. If this was the case, why would governments persist in torture?

Again, my question is how many lives were saved?

Does he actually present any evidence that a 'suspect' has being on a CIA plane when it landed at Shannon?

I doubt that Stephen Grey's book proves anything. But there's no smoke without fire, hey?

while I disagree with the use of torture, do you really think the CIA would be doing it if they weren't getting some useful intelligence, mixed in with the desperate admimissions to anything and everything?

Ahem. The British and RUC did it in the north and got condemmed for it by the UN. Where is the difference now?

I don't understand how that answers my question. My question is whether you genuinely believe that 100% of intelligence obtained from torture is useless.
