Dunlop refuses to name High Court judge
    Monday, 21 January 2008 16:57
Former lobbyist Frank Dunlop has refused to name a High Court judge who met with him while seeking an appointment to the bench.

Mr Dunlop was being questioned at the Mahon Tribunal about a diary entry that described a meeting with barrister Colm Allen and another person in a Dublin hotel in February 2000.

Mr Dunlop said wild horses would not get him to name the person concerned but added that the individual was seeking a High Court appointment at the time and subsequently got it.

Chairman Judge Alan Mahon said the Tribunal will deal with the issue tomorrow.
I note there is a thread relating to Dunlop and perjury. However I have posted this as I feel that if the allegation that Dunlop tried to influence the appointment of a person to the High Court is correct then that person who subsequently became a Judge is compromised.

And if the position on the bench was influenced by Dunlop the judge will always have this at the back of their mind. Also he/she is left open to influence....ie. remember who helped you etc. Particularly given Dunlops track record.

Also wasnt Colm Allen the battler for the Fianna Fail connected witnesses when the tribunal was under the aegis of Mr. Justice Flood? Also, is it true Mr. Allen would be suspected of being soft towards Fianna Fail?

If all this is true what do P.ie'rs feel the next course of action should be?

Should that judge own up and resign and have his/her judgements reviewed for possible bias?

Starting new threads at this time that don't involve P.ie announcements is a dangerous practice. You could invoke the wrath of the 70 users who are still online.

I had to do something... I was getting bored

Seriously though thats why I brought it up as with 70 odd users on line someone may have an opinion as it is serious - imho - and also, if true, a further example of government connected corruption.

Well it could be a Dunlop red-herring, designed to create a distraction, or it could be true but be innocent, or it could be true and involve an appalling vista. Pointless speculating at the moment, and, as with every sentence Dunlop offers as evidence, to be taken with more than a pinch of salt.

Isn't it sad though, that evasiveness and deceit lie so embedded at the upper echelons of our society and if this has some veracity then it is more shame on us.

Maybe Colm Allen can be called to give evidence. He could hardly, as an S.C., refuse to name the third man. If Dunlop recited the Angelus I would think he was lying.

Amazing how an ex-seminarian can be so casual with calling God to witness his lies.
