Internet Privacy - Copies of Emails and Text Msgs to be kept

I heard something about this on the radio. Can anybody provide more details?

The potential for abuse, especially in terms of industrial espionage (fancy word - simple meaning), blackmail and personal attacks are massive. No doubt all this info will be left in the care of private companies.

The erosion of privacy and the autonomy of the individual is massive. The danger of these things is that citizens will adjust their legal behaviour in their personal and business lives for fear of the consequences of being exposed to ridicule, breach of confidentiality and economic risk. It will also become incredibly hard to prove breaches of confidence where confidentiality is key to many business functions.
