Meath man gets 15 years for heroin possession - not long?

Two men from Meath and north County Dublin have been jailed for terms of 15 years and seven years respectively arising out of the seizure of heroin valued €5.75m, the largest ever seizure of heroin at the time.

This is not long enough IMHO. I reckon dealers should get at least 20 years if not life. Any thoughts?

15 years is a fairly hefty sentence in all fairness. And asking to increase sentences to life is a little ridiculous IMO.

Incarceration for whatever length will do nothing to stem the trade. Only decriminalisation, and licensed sale in taxed and monitored outlets will prevent the links between heroin and criminality.

Once again the futility of the war on drugs is for all to see. If drugs were leaglised in Ireland which they should be It would dramatically reduce Ireland's prison population. Idon't consider it morally wrong to take drugs, in my opinion its just as socially acceptable as having a pint of beer.

Sounds about right to me. Given their backgrounds, there must be a possibility that when they eventually get out, they might actually redeem themselves.

Salutary lesson for any "normal" person that gets a bit too fond of the white powder.

Zero tolerance for all pushers and users.

    Build more prisons, if needed.

    Spot on.

Furthermore, it would be much healthier. People don't die of heroin, they die of infection from dirty needles and the rubbish it's cut with in filthy back-street "laboratories".

Furthermore, it wouldn't be so cool and trendy if you had to walk into a clinic, sign a form to say you're an addict, then get it for free, administered by a nurse.
