    Monaghan Murder; Provos Blamed

The family of Paul Quinn, who was mudered last night, are blaming members of the Provisional Movement for their son's murder.

The Cullyhanna man's family say he was recently involved in an altercation with individual members of the IRA.

A short time later he was told to leave the country.

"Our son courageously and correctly refused to leave," read a statement from the Quinn family.

"We believe that he was abducted by the Provisional movement and brutally beaten to death."

I do not know why this is in Sinn Fein section, should it just not be in current affairs or something. If you have a link that connects this death with Sinn Fein, please show it, otherwise, I dont think it is fair to connect

Have you not read the article? The family are the ones making the link.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

Im sorry, but I dont see the article, thats why I asked for a link. I have looked at some of the news websites, but none of them describe accusations that Sinn Fein were involved, I know breakingnews.ie use the phrase Possible paramilitary involvement but no mention of Sinn Fein. So provide the link please

A young man has been brutally murdered, and all you can do is roll your eyes. You make me sick.

It says in the RTE report that its related to the laundering of diesel. This activity derives from the fact that petrol and diesel are much cheaper on the southern side of the border. Although its somewhat off-topic, this emphasises the need for tax harmonisation on both sides of the border. At the moment, and for many years past, there has been a lot of money to be made in the border areas by smuggling. The majority of smuggled goods are cheaper on the northern side and are smuggled south. Others, like petrol, diesel and cigarettes (I think, although I don't smoke) are cheaper on the southern side and are smuggled north. Smuggling is the main criminal activity in the border areas. Everyone living in these areas knows that most of the smuggling is done by PIRA members, whether officially sanctioned or not. Its ironic that those who fulminate most against the existence of the border are the ones who make most financial gain out of it, often at the expense of legitimate businesses. If there was tax harmonisation, smuggling would lose its raison d'etre overnight. Although unionists may understandably have objections to tax harmonisation on both sides of the border, they might be persuaded of its merits when they realise that the ones who'll take a financial hit are their long-time enemies.

It is the accusation that it is Sinn Fein that I am rolling my eyes at.

Actually it might be best for us to raise our taxes on some of these things in line with their taxes. Good for health and good for the environment.

Are you saying that Sinn Fein are no longer part of "the movement"?
