I hope that this will pave the way to fair rule regarding mariages. This reminds me of what someone called "irish born scam" where they tried to discriminate agains children. Our valid irish men and women had to oppose them. This goverment seam to ignore that it can regulate immigration without using extremes. I am sure it is an attempt to flush out the practice of mariage by conveniance, there are better ways

Is it now necessary to get a permit to marry a citizen of a non-EU country? This certainly has a whiff of police state. Is it also necessary to have a Garda permit before dating someone ?
No it has the whiff of some cop on and cutting out the BS. furthermore it refers to non irish EU people married to non EU nationals. it is basically smacking down on a well known marriage for citizenship scam.

if there are better ways then show us. the best way is to do what is being done now, cut out the scam artists and send them packing. by the way where is the reference to 'thousands' as mentioned by the original poster. the rte news website refers to several hundreds.

Politically a very good move as its being seen to be hard on the people who abuse the system and take the piss.

Both Morning Ireland and the Irish Times refer to 'thousands'.

According to the Solicitor on Morning Ireland your spouse will run into problems renewing their residency if you are a non-Irish EU national. However if you are an Irish national then your spouse will not get caught up in this. This is all to do with EU regulations being implemented here not domestic legislation.
