    New Equality Authority

    Folks,
Just wondering do we have a new sytle of Government where the senior Minister of Justice lets a junior minister appointed the equality authority, the new authoritys names are on the press release on depart of justice site. One of the appointments is Sean Fogarty from Munster GAA, I would presume this is the same Sean Fogarty who ran as an Independent in the Local elections in 2004, in the Templemore LEA which covers Roscrea, where the Equality Authority is suppose to be decentralised and which is the area represented by Michael Lowry TD. So is this part of the Lowry and FF deal, that the Equality Authority is decentralsied to his area.
Has anyone any other information on the rest of the appointees

WOW, so a former PD turned Labout hack in Dublin West sets up a thread attacking the Dublin West TD and Minister, Brian Lenihan!!

The Equality Authority was always due to be decentralised there, ever since the Programme was announced over three years ago.

As has been said the decision to move to Roscrea was taken years ago, Michael Smith being the man who claimed credit. I know there are already Equality Authority staff down in Roscrea, although many of the 50 plus staff in Dublin are planning to transfer rather than go down to Roscrea.

Well Angela Kerins is a big FFer. Former associate of Wednesday Wallace out in Meath. Rehab were smart, while Frank Flannery was ploughing the furrows with FG, Angela who was his side kick was supporting FF. She is the boss there now that Frank has retired. Seems a bit strange that she has been appointed chair of EA along with already being Chair of National Disability Authority.

Unlike the last board, there doesn't seem to be a direct IBEC and ICTU representative on EA. Although Kerins is high up in IBEC structures as well, how she gets around to day job is anyone guess. Strong disability representation, 3 people and women, carers, travellers and LGBT community. Obviously in the interests of equality they also had to include a Lowryite, with Sean Fogarty being a close associate of Lowry for many years.

The other interesting thing is that not one member of the previous board has been re-appointed, that is fairly unusual.

It might be in the act that set up the authority that a board member can only serve for one term - its quite common in newer state bodies - you would have to see the wording of the act

Now Dunny, I think u need to wear glasses, first of all I did not attack Brian, I was actually quite impressed that he did not make the appointments himself, he not doubt is going to be a much better minister than the former minister. Secondly I was never a pd hack, hacks are those people who stay in the background stamp their feet and shout and do notghing else, I for sure was never one of those. Finally are we not allowed to question the appointment of people to state authorities, where as with the former board I did raise those appointments with the former minister. I just highlighting that a new member is from Roscrea who rang in the locals in 2004 as an an independent and is from the same area is Michael Lorwy independent TD.
