This case just won't go away.
The Garda Siochana Ombudsman have decided that it's in the public interest to open an investigation into how Terence Wheelock died.
I think without doubt this incident needs to be cleared up and hopefully a thorough investigation by the Ombudsman will result in finality and closure for the Wheelock family.

Agreed. Nice to see that it won't be the Gardai investigating Gardai. I just hope that whatever the outcome, and given that it is conducted properly, which I believe it will, the results will be accepted by all sides.

Good glad to hear this. Important for an Garda Síochána and for the family that justice would be seen to be done regardless of the verdict.
Inquest?
Surely you mean an investigation or inquiry?
hopefully they get to the bottom of this case. a lot of things dont add up and/or seem highly suspect. i wonder if this new inquiry will look at the forensic evidence that was deemed in-admissable by the inquest or will it just look at the initial investigation.

I myself would not be to optimistic its not a nuala oloian ombudsman like in the north,
but a water down version under the directions of the mad mullah mcdowell,
the only way to address the issue in the correct forum as the wheelock family have campaigned for tirelessly, is an independent public inquiry, why should that family settle for second best, but i do agree its a step in the right direction. in to this mysterious death

Lack of evidence. I wonder if they got the opinion of the staff who treated Terry Wheelock when he was brought into the Mater - both senior and junior staff. I cannot comment any further but I will say that I wouldn't be terribly surprised if there was trouble tonight.
