Ratzinger is actually 100% likely to have handled files relating to sexual violence by Irish priest on Irish children when he was heading the CDF. No doubt the Papal Nuncio to Ireland would have confirmed that had he bothered to cooperate with the Murphy Commission. Ratzinger's absence from the Eucharistis Congrats later this year means he's going to avoid a citizen's arrest - actually over 300 citizens - by not setting foot in Ireland.

Ireland is now a no-go area for Ratzinger. I think we'll call that a Result!
Andy - I suggest you back out to your garden with your transistor radio - you must have been cool then??

If there is any further comfort to be had for those who were directly affected by clerical abuse here I would point out that the likes of Catalpa and TFM are now very much in the minority and whether someone is atheist or catholic or muslim or whatever there can be very few who would not recoil at the strategy displayed by these two in particular. To me it amounts to another secondary level of abuse and is unforgiveable.

This is why it is pointless to keep reexplaining things to apologists, they just pretend they are right at the beginning each time, your dishonesty in the above is so blatant its beyond ridiculous.

    Bullsh1t. More lies again Catalpa?

"I note that Cardinal Brady has now acknowledged that the information I gave him regarding other children being abused or at risk of abuse, should have been passed on to their parents in 1975."
    - Brendan Boland's response to Cardinal Brady's apology. BBC News - Statement by Brendan Boland
Boland revealed to a BBC documentary last week that he gave Brady, then a priest, a list of names and addresses of other children Smyth was abusing. He claims neither Brady or the hierarchy acted on his information.

Very few I would venture, unless they have less respect for the grandparents than they have for the Church.

Many are doing it as a sort of rite of passage and well, because it's the thing to do, like not going to Mass.

We're not dealing with rebels here, but with ultra-conformists.

I think they realise that now and it would seem that in Brendan Boland's case that his father is tormented by the fact that he didn't.

But the priests had knowledge of further abuse and therefore knew that Smyth should have been stopped by the most effective means ie. the civil authorities.

On receiving the knowledge the triumvirate of priests continued their archaic process which resulted in no change in Smyth's activities.
They failed those children no matter how you spin it.
And Brady has to go. I am not calling for his arrest but he is simply a joke as somebody who assumes some kind of moral authority.
    The buck stops with him.
No. They are obliged to look after their children and if they feel that their child's best interests is served by not going to the police then that is their right.

The law is simple in this case, and the law cannot oblige a victim to testify against their attacker. Maybe the victim "should" testify, but there is no way in law to force them to do so and in many cases it would make their situation worse.

Please don' add to the myth being propagated by some posters here that these parents are involved in the cover-up.

It is despicable of you to point the finger at an abuse survivor's elderly dad. Despicable but predictable from the supporter of an organisation that has facilitated and condoned the rape and buggery of children.

Like the equally odious Mary Kenny you attempt to pile humiliation upon an already horrifically abused and betrayed family.

    Despicable.
