€14.5m spent on garda resources at Corrib site

€14.5m spent on garda resources at Corrib site - RT News

Perhaps the time has come to seek reimbursement for the costs associated with policing these protests from those protesting rather than the State (the taxpayer) having to foot the bill.

Minister Shatter said although the level of resources involved was regrettable it was "absolutely necessary" due to the actions of some protesters, many of whom he accused of engaging in "protest tourism".

He claimed it was "scandalous" that some protesters behaved in a "self-indulgent way" at a time when many people in the country were under severe financial pressure.

He said policing at the Bellanaboy site required the expenditure of a substantial amount of taxpayers' money, which could be put to better use.

would it not make more sense for the cost to be reimbursed by the people availing of the publicly funded security service. On All Ireland final day, the GAA pay for the extra Gardai

Giving away natural resources that under the Constitution belong to the State (for the benefit of the people) is expensive.

    Whatever next?

The protestors are the ones who have necessitated the extra costs involved in protecting the site not the company who are lawfully trying to go about their bussiness, no protestors=no extra security costs.

The company is the one that has railroaded over people's rights in the area and constantly broken the law
proper adherence to the law & locals rights = no protestors

no protestors=the continuing surrender of all our natural assets to multi nationals and corrupt politicians that facilitate it

And where are the cops when there is a house being burgled ?

    Not one to be found.

Instead they are shoving around pensioners, and crusties on a few roads in the very far West.

Sounds like the state misallocating resources AGAIN.

The more official spin I hear about "protest tourism" the more I realise that this is official view nonsense.

Why would somebody go to a part of Ireland where it is raining every rain to take part in any form of "tourism" ?

Dublin, Europe's most supportive tourist destination for Peados, thanks to no electronic passport swipe in Dublin Airport. Ireland always facilitates child molestors.

Bull, the protesters are the ones that have consistently broken the law.

The company have continually been allowed to proceed with the project by the courts, it is the protestors who have attempted to physically stop the project despite many injunctions ordering them to desist, let them take their protests to the courts where they properly belong, stopping the necessity of the State having to spend millions of taxpayer's euros on securing the site from the protestors thus allowing the company and the protestors to bare the costs between them and leaving the State out of it.

But Shell have drawn lines on maps and say "that's the law!". They should be bearing 100% of the costs as a result of their attempt to do the project on the cheap.
