Chinese Parents force child to run in his underpants, socks and shoes in the snow

A truly shocking video has emerged of a 4 year old Chinese boy who was forced by his parents to run in the snow of -13 celsius just clad in his underpants, socks and shoes?

The shivering child repeatedly pleads with his mother and father to be allowed to stop, and the father who is believed to be a businessman then commands that the child performs some press-ups. Incredibly, the video also shows that there is a passing member of the public who saw that this child was being forced to run in the snow with no clothes on.

In online postings it is claimed that this child was born several months prematurely and doctors were concerned that he may suffer developmental delays. To counter this risk, the father who is apparently from Nanjing and who was visiting NYC for the Chinese New Year, came up with a harsh regime to develop the child's strength and mental toughness. His mother can also be heard in the background laughing at her sons ordeal.

Are there cultural differences between East and West where what we may look on as a punishment and even child abuse is seen in Eastern cultures like China as tough parenting and developing the stamina of the child? Some of the debates that are taking place online are saying that this is an alternative and "unique" form of strict parenting but all the same it doesn't constitute child abuse. So is this child abuse and should this child be taken into care....thoughts please?

You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned cultural differences. Yes they are very significant and there are many. I wouldn't do this to my four year old. However when he is in his teens I would love to drag him out of bed to carry out a punishing physical regime.

Unfortunately child abuse is everywhere, even right here in Ireland.. don’t fool yourself it is just because they are Chinese.

Michael O'Leary had to do that every morning in Mullingar as a child.

Where were New York's finest cops whilst this was all going on? In the bars and donut shops probably.

darn it, how we meant to compete with with "chinese mothers" , all hail our new overlords! . I dont see it as a justice issue though, and I'm sure the kid will have a better upbringing then "team diabetes" that many Irish kids seem to be signing up to thanks to slack jaw parenting here.
