Senator Rónán Mullen wants an abortion Referendum

Senator Rónán Mullen wants an abortion Referendum. Yes Ronan of the two fadas wants an Abortion Referendum.

You see the European Court of Human Rights deliberated on the ABC v Ireland Case A, B AND C v. IRELAND - 25579/05 [2010] ECHR 2032 (16 December 2010)

Aparently even if you had cancer and were pregnant and you needed treatment that would harm your baby Ronan as I understand him, would not want you to have abortion, and he would like to have a referendum to make sure you could not have one, even though you were free to have one in England.

Senator Rónán Mullen's website | Senator Mullen calls for referendum after European Court decision abortion

Ronan of the two fadas reckons:

"The Government must turn again to the democratic option of a referendum, to allow the Irish people an opportunity to reaffirm our constitutional protection of all human beings, including the unborn, while guaranteeing best medical care for women in pregnancy. Too often judicial and political debate neglects to mention that intentional abortion is never medically necessary to save the life of a woman, and that Ireland without abortion is consistently ranked as among the safest countries in the world in which to give birth.”

You neglected to highlight the word 'intentional' in his quote. He is not arguing against treatment for a woman which might, as an unintended and secondary consequence, kill the unborn child.

Now Ivanna Bacik's Female Genital mutilation Bill would make it illegal for any Irish Citizen to carry out Mutilation ony where in the World.

I wonder has Ronan thought of seeking to do the same with abortion?

The fundementalists would relally love that!

Cue reason and common sense going out the window and out with the baby killers posters. TBH gay marriage has more of a chance of being passed. Abortion referenda are never entered into voluntarily. IMO it's likely to be deferred until at least the "2nd term" when there's the slim hope life will have improved and we'll all have calmed down .

So a referendum to change nothing? Kinda like renewing your vows after years of marraige, well that's a good use of taxpayers money!!

I don't know what age the said Ronan is, but only a complete ejeet could want to have an abortion referendum.

Is he too young to remember the bitterness and sheer nastiness that took over the country when we last went to the polls on this one.

I am leaving this country if they try to have another referendum on abortion.....

Wonder does he ever consider that those who already have the right to life might in fact lose it because he and his colleagues in the Dail and Seanad who are taking leaders allowances and huge expenses are part of a system that robs the less well off in our society of the means to sustain life.

What makes him think he could win it? As long as you allow the protection for the mother (without which winning is impossible) then you contemplate legal abortion in some circumstances and no wording that allows that will have the support of the pro-life movement.

I defy him or anyone to come up with a wording that would pass and have the support of people like himself. No chance.

On the other hand the introduction of abortion clinics here would not be supported either. I think we have the policy we want as a society, safe legal unrestricted abortion in England.

Very handy platform for contesting a fiveseater after the Seanad is abolished!
