ACTA-possibly worse than SOPA/PIPA and will apply to Ireland

Just been reading up on ACTA which is a truly scarey piece of legislation to be voted on by the EU.

I have many concerns about ACTA, namely:
It was written in secret by the large media/software groups.
Allows ISP's to pass on your personal details without any court order.
Will mean that the ISP's are legally bound to monitor your internet connection for any pirated media.
There is the possibility of your mp3 player/smartphone/laptop being searched at a border crossing.
The European Parliament has had no represenation in the negotiations and looks like they will just rubber stamp it without due discourse.

And as usual our lazy media here in Ireland are completely oblivous to this! I could not find one article about ACTA in the press, if anyone has come across one please do let us know.

I am sick to death of big business and governments trying to involve themselves in my life... I go to a supermarket to buy goods, not to have my purchases tracked for "points", I have turned off roaming on my phone when abroad to avoid being tracked by the phone company, apple and any apps that I may have.. I do not download any illegal material from the net.. yet people want to have the ability to trace my ISP and monitor it for illegal downloads, I am sure they also would like to trace my ISP for all comments made. Even David can block my ISP if he wants to.

ANY attempt by legislation to modify the internet is a gross breach of freedom. Why do they not just implant a chip at birth and monitor our every move by satellite.

Thank you nixmix fr bringing this to my attention, it is indeed rather a dangerous piece of legislation if passed.

Hang on - negotiated in secret but with input from the corporations
    - presented as a whole to parliaments so that they can either reject or accept but cannot alter or negotiate
    - sets up a new supranational body with minimal public control
    - fails to distinguish between for-profit organized crime and fair use
    - operates on the basis of the presumption of guilt
    - done without any real input from developing countries
    - leads to a massive invasion of privacy, essentially abolishes annonymity, and forces private websites to spy on you
    - allows your private info to be shared without due process

I'd say the Commission were delighted. On the upside, there is resistance- Brazil has drafted an Anti-Acta law that protects citizens, users, and ISPs agaisnt this dispicable attempt to privelege corporate interests above civil rights, to engage in legislation laundering and render parilaments irrelevant, and to help build a government by technocracy.

Is any one else beginning to feel distinctly overgoverned?

If only we had politicians in Ireland that stood up for the people! Think I want to move to Brazil now

    Totally opposed to it.

But the Irish media are compliant, obedient and useless with respect to the public interest.

And the corporations are losing their grip on public opinion, because their media hoors are not having the same impact on directing the massess anymore.
Dublin, Europe's most supportive tourist destination for Peados, thanks to no electronic passport swipe in Dublin Airport. Ireland always facilitates child molestors.

I agree in general with the points being made here, but there must be someway to ensure laws are broken in any area.

Eg. I never drink and drive, yet can be stopped by police and force to blow into a bag at any time.

Megaupload was taken down without any of those laws.
