They are publishing the names of those who put the governents side across? I should love this but since I believe in annonymous free speech, I can't say that I approve. It is not the specific individual that we argue against, but the position being advocated. That being said, I do not believe that it is legitimate for the goverment to use hired guns to police public opinion, and I would like to know about the effort in general, and would like it stopped. When the government or a public body speaks, we should know that it is the government/public body that is speaking.
Fine by me. I'd be happy if they removed any mention of Sean Sherlock TD from the internet altogether. More power to Anonymous.
Far quicker than they'd take action against members of the Oireachtas downloading public money into their pockets I feel.
So Anonymous manage to take down a few brochureware sites for a few hours.
Effect on anyone other than a few IT folks? Nil.
Will someone explain how this is seen by the mad, frothy mouthed internet warriors as a significant step in the overthrow of the corrupt 'system'?
Statement sent to Politics.ie from the Department of Justice about their takedown last night....
Statement from the Department of Justice Press Office
Last night the Department of Justice website experienced a Distributed
Denial of Service attack. This is not an attempt to extract information
from the website but is instead an attempt to stop access to a service.
There seems to be no damage done to the website, however a review is being
conducted this morning. The situation continues to be monitored by the
Department of Justice and the Department of Communication.
The Government is aware of the potential threat of this type of cyber
attack and the Department of Communications is coordinating a whole of
Governement response to this threat.
What law are the isps breaking . They are giving access to the network that is it why are they going to be penalised over SOMEBODY ELSE breaking the law ?? They are going to loose money to protect someone elses immoral profit margin that is not even in this country. And this law will do nothing to stop people from pirating absoultley nothing as you cannot police the internet. It will only effect honest joe but when they ban the most usefull pirate sites like google , youtube please dont complain it is what you asked for.
The anon attacks are the equivelent of a bunch of kids breaking windows nothing more it is to achive a headline and will be counter productive as the goverments control what the headline says.
Some civil servants are, as I speak, blocking all the windows of the Dept of Justice by stacking e-voting machines one on top of the other.
