As someone asked me earlier when I said that the caller had paid for the call (I doubt if the Garda rang him), how do you know that it was even a second repeat call, never mind a 25th?Originally Posted by adrem

Brilliant! Is that the gay section near the window on the first floor? Good value too I would say.

Very unprofessional and embarrassing. Hardly a sacking offence.
These Gardai would do well to remember that there are an awful lot of mentally unstable people out there. How funny would this incident have been if this Garda's behavior provoked the caller enough that he turned up and assaulted one of these gardai?

[quote=" But the key to this telephone call business is training. The Garda seems very young. If wonder if he has received any training in dealing with the public by phone, which is a very difficult business given that most people making calls to the Gardai are in a state of stress ranging from mild annoyance to advanced shock. If he has not then he should be made to undergo training. If he has been trained in how to deal with difficult calls then that's a different matter and it becomes a disciplinary issue. In the call, it seems to me, an older gentleman is clearly in a state of some bewilderment, possibly trauma-induced, but he's stubbornly maintaining a poignant, old-fashioned dignity. I think in his own way the young officer is just as bewildered as the caller. He's certainly displaying his obvious immaturity, which I would guess - and this is just my opinion - is down to a lack of training rather than a lack of humanity. Time will tell, I imagine.[/quote]
Sorry but I work in an ICU and have to deal with annoyed, traumatised, drunk and people under the influence of all types and have never had any training.
If someone annoys you , you simply say "I can't speak to you at the minute until you calm down" and hang up the phone.
If this clip is real then the guard is simply mocking an ill man for the benefit of his friends and should be rightly punished.
If I did this in my job then I would be punished.
I've found better deals personally.Originally Posted by unicorn

It has obviously been edited I agree.. But that doesn't dispute the fact the Gardaí involved aren't taking the piss out of the caller.. They've abused their position in using the recording of a call to their station for their own entertainment, and tried in earnest to parody the caller..Originally Posted by bremer
It's not as bad as it first appears, i.e. it doesn't show the Gardaí involved taking the piss during a live call, which would have been much more serious.. But at the same time it's an abuse of power, i.e. an abuse of their access to recorded, confidential phone conversations, which is wrong.
The one thing I know is I can't know anything else...
