Disgraced order in spotlight again as new horrors emerge

Here we go again!!!

FRESH questions have been raised about the extent of child abuse by the Brothers of Charity after the emergence of new evidence of horrific conditions at a home in Cork run by the order.
The Irish Independent has obtained hundreds of pages of documents about the dreadful living conditions of vulnerable children in the care of the congregation at Lota residential facility in Glanmire, Co Cork.
But it is understood that the documents were not made available to the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse, which condemned the Brothers of Charity in the 2009 Ryan Report.
It begs serious questions about how many other documents detailing horrific abuse may have slipped under the commission's radar.
Lota has hit the headlines over the past 15 years as a result of shocking sexual abuse perpetrated on dozens of pupils there.
Two men came to typify the brutal exploitation of youngsters in the 1950s and '60s who were entrusted to Lota's care.
Brother Ambrose, also known as James Kelly; and Brother Eunan, also known as James Redmond, were both convicted of a horrific catalogue of abuses against children as young as 10.
Br Ambrose (85) was described as "an evil monster". He later admitted he lost count of the number of youngsters he had abused over more than 20 years. One victim said that they had been subjected to "a reign of sexual terror" in the facility.
But the voices of mentally handicapped youngsters who were resident there have never been heard.

It is high time Alan Shatter ordered the Gardai to carry out a full investigation into the running of ALL of these institutions going back as far as they possibly can. If religious orders withold documents, evidence etc their leaders should be jailed for perverting the course of justice!

And to think that all of these ba$tards had the balls to call themselves 'Christian'! They never knew the meaning of the word!

I would imagine the RCC church in Ireland have more paper shredders than priests at this stage.

I fear that you are correct in that assumption. It has become very evident of late that the hierarchy both here and in the Vatican will do anything to try to uphold their reputation. They fail to see, however, that most people have noticed that the Emperor has no clothes and that their reputation is where it rightly belongs - in the gutter.

Good catholic people in Ireland - and there are many - need to reclaim their church and make it into what it should be. The story of Jesus overturning the tables in the Temple yard and turning out the money lenders springs to mind here!

Anyone remember when this guy stood on the steps of Dublin Castle and told the country that the collar will no longer protect any criminal. More BS as usual from this party/guy..............but has anything really changed in the meantime?

In fairness, the place where you work may well have more shredders than the RCC in Ireland has priests, at this stage.

Nothing in that article proves anything.

It's based on hysteria and hear-say. Of course don't let the truth get in the way of another anti-Catholic troll thread.

It’s ok we know when you land in a thread to try and justify the rape of children that there is certainly loads to see here.
