I am very upset over Rate My Solicitor being closed down, ditto the impending legislation of Sean Sherlock.
Back in the day,if we had a website called 'Rate My Christian Brother' ,or 'Rate My Industrial School' would that have been closed down by the Courts too?
Probably. Wild accusations may hide a grain of truth, but a Rate my Christian Brother site wouldn't have uncovered anything. The truth would have been buried in an avalanche of ill informed comment.
Remember RTE's recent apology? It would have been oodles of that.

No.We are too small a country. We need forums where people can tell tales out of school
Work is basically secondary school all over again.'Please Mom,I can't tell-the bully will make it worse'-and they do.Whistle blowers loose their jobs.Children get labelled 'Problematic'.
We needed 'Rate My Christian Brother'
'Rate My Industrial School'.
'Rate My Doctor/Dentist/Obstetrician/Gynaecologist /Psychiatrist /Solicitor /Garda
When was the last time one of these was reprimanded /struck off before they had committed heinous acts of social vandalism and ruined countless personal fortunes and lives etc?
So, ergo2, IF a pair of allegations held water such as: a comment referring to the fact that the Plaintiff in question was a registered tax defaulter and that same Plaintiff was approved to provide professional advice to NAMA........ does protection as informed comment/honest opinion on a matter of public interest become relevant?

I am unfamiliar with this site but wonder if you could have a survey type approach where clients fills in the same questionnaire and there are warnings re type of material contributed which could lead to legal action.
In my experience the level of service provided by solicitors especially outside the cities? Is appalling and the profession needs to be thoroughly shaken up.

Nope. The profession involved is irrelevant. If it had been Rate my Nurse or Rate my Doctor the same concerns would be valid. You've got to start from the position that everyone is entitled to their good name. It's not good enough for a site to facilitate the spreading of falsehoods.
People can go on sites (including this one) and say "Sync's a jerk, I don't like him" without any issue. But once they start saying "Sync was my lawyer/doctor/electrician and demonstrated such poor performance that he should be brought up on criminal/regulatory charges" then you know what, I deserve to now who that person is so I can take action against them to protect my name.
If you're the first out the door, that's not called panicking.
truth or call it accuracy is a justification and it is protected expression. journalists have been using un-named sources to expose corruption for ages. if truth is not justification then every moment spent on sites like this is spoofery.
