    Black juries for Black defendants?

A troubling perspective on the grim future we face a a result of uncontrolled mass immigration was raised in the Court of Criminal Appeal a day or two ago.

A man from Nigeria lost his appeal against his conviction for battering his wife to death with a hammer, while their two children looked on.
Upon receiving the verdict, the killer accused the court of racism: "This is total injustice. I am from Africa. Everyone in this court is from Ireland".

We might overlook this as merely the irrational outburst of a convicted murderer facing life in prison, though one has to ask who is imbuing our immigrants with the sense of grievance and the ready recourse to screams of "racism".

But what is far more disturbing, and indeed surely a matter for reprimand from the competent disciplinary authority, is one of the grounds for appeal put forward by the man's solicitor. One Pieter Le Vert (sounds Afrikaans, doesn't he?) argued that ""a white judge and jury hampered a fair trial".

Is this what we are coming to ?

Black juries for Black accused? Polish juries for Polish defendants?
    Are we crazy?

The judge should have done Mr. Le Vert for contempt of court.

Well, given that a judge allowed cultural reasons to mitigate the killing of a young boy by an African in a barbaric circumcision a few years ago, it is hardly surprisng that this piece of sh*t (I am referring to the solicitor by the way) should think racism was a plausible defence for someone murdering his wife. And no doubt there are lots of idiots like Flynn who would accept such 'reasoning'.

The only way our society can handle immigration is if the principle of equality under the law is sacrosanct. I'm pro-immigration because I think people should be able to go where they want to improve their lives but we must resist this kind of stupidity

Before we lock up Peter the Green (Le Vert), the Barrister, can we have a link to the full story?

A few years ago a gaelgeoir asksed that the jury be fluent gaelgeori, that was rejected by the Court of Criminal Appeal.
We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don't know we don't know.

An Irish person asking to be heard in the "First Official Language" bears what relationship to a defence of racism for someone battering his wife to death with a hammer

The relationship is that in both cases the defendant is arguing that the make-up of the jury was prejudicial to their right to a fair trial.

Pretty obvious, I would have thought.
