Georgian asylum-seeker rapes Woman -gets 10 years

    Here, also on RTE

Vardoshilli came to Ireland in 2000 with his wife as an asylum seeker. Det garda Evans said his status had since changed as the couple had had an Irish-born child.
No indication whether or not his claim for asylum was initially accepted, I don't agree that he ought to have the right to stay here on the basis of his child born in Ireland.

He should have been deported years ago. Was Ireland really the first safe country he arrived in? Would he not have been obliged to seek sanctuary in the first safe country he entered? Do we have flights to Georgia?

How is it that it took three years before this came to court? I would imagine he be deported after serving his sentence.

It seems we have the filth of Europe and beyond arriving in our ancient homeland and the decent people of Ireland are powerless to keep them out.

    engels,

you are quite correct. we have enough crime committed by irish people, why would we want to import more criminals?

i'm not looking to stop immigration altogether, just some form of screening so that no rapists, murderers, gang members or paedos feel free to enter our state at will.

Yes but what if they're not paedos murderes gang members or rapists until they arrive here? How would they screen them if they have no criminal records? would it be like the terrorist question in airport forms. do you intend to rape anyone when you arrive in ireland? Its just not practical, and since i doubt the rate of offence is higher among non-nationals then it is among Irish people, I really don't consider it an issue. Rotten apples occur in every society.

Judging by the numbers of non nationals in prison, it clearly is higher. A lot higher in fact.

It goes to show that for all the rhetoric of the wooly-minded dogooders on immigration, we're getting the bad with the good when we open the borders to non-nationals. Listening to them you could be forgiven for thinking 100% of the newcomers were whiter than white in terms of behaviour.

Would you stop them from seeking asylum?

Rhetoric? I asked before for you to name someone on this site who thought that. You couldn't do it. The broad point the "PC Liberal Elite Super Squad Action Team" is making is that, as you say, "we're getting the bad with the good" and that that's an observation on humankind, not immigrants.

FT, is your party proposing quotas or screening for other EU nations or just non-EU?
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.
