It is wholly inappropriate to pursue a policy allowing greater numbers of non-EU students into Ireland. Anecdotal evidence suggests that thousands of Chinese, Pakistani and other nationals are abusing the current system in order to secure work in Ireland. Bogus language schools accept payment for 'attendance records'. These records are then used as supporting documentation for renewal of student visas. The Department of Justice has no way of verifying if these schools are bona fide and issue the visa.
Meanwhile, that other arm of the Department of Justice (GNIB) must plough a lone furrow in attempting to locate and secure evidence against these bogus schools. It doesnt require a great deal of political savvy to suggest that the best defence against such abuses is the immediate implementation of legislation which would regulate and police this area of 'education'.
+1. It is absolutely inane to propose expanding the numbers without examining and ensuring that the downsides are covered adequately. Then again, FG do, unfortunately, have a penchant for shooting themselves in the foot.
It's largely driven by the D4 upper-bourgeoise mantra of "multiculturalism" driven by ideology and vested-interests rather than the national-interests.

Well, what a valuable contribution to the discussion that was.
