Hes clearly bonkers
then goes on to issue a veiled threat, nice![he said].. a conspiracy is continuing all over the world from some vested corners to destroy the image of Real Islam. Some people were brainwashed and planted all over the world to do such activities which finally destroy the normal lives and image of Muslims in western world...
in related news..Sheikh Ahmed also requested the European peace loving people not to take any advantage to misuse the freedom of press and freedom of expression to provoke anybody to destroy the harmony of the communities.
I imagine a political assessment on impact to "community relations" is being weighted, not evidence / charges...Five of the seven people arrested in Ireland a week ago have been released, the last of them shortly before Monday's hearing. But two others, an Algerian man and a Libyan man, were formally charged with relatively minor offenses that lawyers involved in the case said could keep them in custody while more serious charges, including conspiracy to murder, are weighed by Irish prosecutors. The lawyers said charges against the five others were also possible.<article continues>

Maybe this isn't the right thread for this report back, but I have just come from friday prayers at a mosque in Dublin. The one on the South Circular Road between Dolphin's Barn and Harold's Cross.
Everything is very laid back and friendly, only men in evidence, and practically all (I guess) never grew up or went to school in Ireland.
Fair enough. But as the Imam started the sermon in arabic befor prayers commenced properly, I heard again and again words like ''Palestine'' and ''Israel'' and ''Al-Quds''.
I was wondering what was being said, when after 15 minutes he switched to English, and indeed it was a sermon about Palestine (occupied) and Israel ..... and even ''the Jews'' at one time, and how the Israelis planned to destroy the Al Asqua mosque in Jerusalem and build their Temple apon it.
He then went back into arabic for ten minutes, before coming back to English to say how muslims had a duty to do what they could to save the muslim holy places and to see an end to occupation in Palestine, and that their ''jihad'' could be just to give money to good causes and it was their duty as good muslims to support their brothers ..... etc.
I'm not kidding, that's how it went.
How appropriate a sermon that is for a ''new immigrant'' muslim community to Ireland to be hearing I shall leave up to you to decide - but that was this afternoon between one and two pm.
I don't see anything objectionable about a cleric calling for people to protect sites holy to a particular religion.
Nor is it objectionable for someone to call for peaceful support of the Palestinians.
I'd imagine there's been one or two calls for support for Israel over the years from Jewish clerics in Ireland.
I think though Sondagefaux that the suggestions that Israel is planning to destroy the Al Aqsa mosque are way wide of the mark - and I find it disappointing that Ireland's new Muslin community - at least at that mosque, does not seem to be making a jump and a leap away from the more backward notions that you can find in the Middle East and north Africa.
You said he didn't suggest that - you said that he suggested 'the Jews' want to destroy the mosque.
The controversy over Al-Aqsa mosque is an extension of the political.

I find it disappointing too, but I'm as disappointed in the backward notions that are found in other Middle Eastern countries, and in Ireland.and I find it disappointing that Ireland's new Muslin community - at least at that mosque, does not seem to be making a jump and a leap away from the more backward notions that you can find in the Middle East and north Africa.

Fair points there Sondagefaux. He did use ''Israel'' and ''Jews'' a bit interchangeably though.
