Feck, i was hoping our country would have somehow avoided this crap, wish somehow this had been kept out of the country, i don't want genuine Islamofreaks here and i don't want the reaction to them, ie abnormal politics (the likes of Geert Wilders running around talking about the dangers of the oncoming caliphate, crackdowns on civil liberties, Israelophilia etc etc).

I am not happy with the explanation that the information for the allegation comes from intelligence services, we need more - we need disclosure of facts, details etc... Saying that some guy who may have been waterboarded 100 times gave this information is not enough, to be blunt i do not trust the international intelligence agencies... while in Ireland i expect and hope that the suspects will receive all their legal rights.

What we need is a mechanism for reversing refugee status for those who participate in terrorism.
Be inclined to agree and also reconsider quotas from countries that are most likely to provide this kind of 'refugee' (assuming the charges are proven of course). However we may be jumping the gun, some of those involved could even be white and Irish, they do exist.

It might be helpful, and it would certainly be less legally prejudicial, if some posters on this thread reminded themselves that there is a legal presumption of innocence in Ireland.

Comments which suggest or presume the guilt of those arrested are prejudicial and will no doubt be used by defence legal teams if this matter comes to trial.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't like to be partially responsible for a court ruling that someone's right to a fair trial had been so compromised by remarks made in the media that no trial could go ahead.

Thanks to the moderator who changed the thread title.

Hopefully RTÉ will follow your lead.

I was wondering the same Telemachus.
One particular playground in Waterford City is visited daily by 6-7 niqab clad women.
Why are people from Morocco and Yemen getting refugee status anyway?
Seriously interested in the usual tripe from all the apologists; these people are not representative, they've distorted the message of peace and love, blah blah blah.

Bring on peak oil I say. The perhaps European politicians will grow a backbone and end this farce once and for all. Murderous rage over cartoons? Laugh or cry? I don't know anymore.

Who the hell cares whether you trust international intelligence agencies or not? The point is the Gardai, the people charged with protecting the security of this state and its citizens, do and take the information supplied very seriously - hence these arrests.

Would the lefty wackjobs, Israelphobes and Islamonuts prefer if the intended target had been murdered in another country and the trail led back to Ireland?

Was wondering how long this would go before immigration was brought into play.

7 arrests, not convictions, arrests. 7.

It would be grossly hypocritical to questioning our attitudes towards immigrants in this country based on their shared nationality with terrorists.

    Let's keep things in perspective.

Why were these people granted asylum in this country? Were they been persecuted in their home countries (doubt it), or was it just a front so they could come here and spread their disease? They obviously lied. Soft touch are we. Kick them out!

Kind of like what happened in Dubai not so long ago?

Interista, you mean that the Mossad agents were living here in Ireland, with asylum status, getting money from the state while planning to kill this Hamas dude because of a picture he once drew????

Wow, you really do learn something new everyday!!!
