    African rapist gets 13 years.

A Congolese man Kasenge Bangu has been sent down for 13 years at the expense of Irish taxpayers for the rape of a 15 year old Zambian girl brought into this country with bogus documentation.

The report states that Mr Banghu is in Ireland as an asylum seeker having apparently been well coached in the formulation of lies necessary to achieve this status.

For how much longer is this madness going to continue?

How much more silence from the people who claim to be our representatives can this small island and its people take?

Why do these people have the audacity to put themselves forward for reelection?

All you need to do to attain the status of "asylum seeker" is to ask for asylum.

Do you have a point lurking in there somewhere?

Countless Irish people have emigrated abroad in the past, for the prospect of a better life. It would be churlish to believe that those from countries less fortunate than Ireland would not want to do the same.

While I agree with you that people of a criminal background should be disbarred, the tone of your post seems to smack of racism. Maybe you can clarify this?

What report, and how did this report reach the conclusion that he had lied? Perhaps that type of process should be added to the asylum process... But if this is the report of the trial, was the man's method of gaining access to Ireland actually 'proven' during a rape trial, for what reason?

The judge in the case stated as Mr Banghu seemed free to return back and forth between Ireland and Africa he could hardly be seen as a genuine asylum seeker. So how does he and so many others outfox the controls that should be in place?

There are three large points made there, none of them lurking. This goes to the heart of whether in Ireland we have a representational democracy or not. I contend we dont.

Hey Farnaby, go easy on Twin Towers there....

Why let the facts get in the way of a good rant?

Henry, Have you tried to get into the US lately to work and live? We are not in the era anymore of coffin ships arriving at Ellis Island disgorging people at will.

A crime happened in this country and a person was duly punished. The Irish people paid for that, and I would assume, most people would wish the girl (woman, at this stage?) well in attempting to put this behind her and get on with her life.

Okay - which report? Who coached him? Prior to his incarceration, was his application refused?

Rape happens, unfortunately as a syptom of the human condition. Happily, in this case, the perpetrator was apprehended and justice has been done. I cannot infer any ongoing insanity in that tale.

Well, you're right, it seems like it's either empty rhetoric or a pernicious silence from our representatives. Still, in this case justice has been done - what's to be said?

I often ask myself the same question. Some people just have more balls / stupidity / ambition than others, I guess.

I have to say, that was a somewhat pscyosphrenic post. Was there actually a point?

What report. ? According to the RTE News report there is no mention of this, and also the girl was 14 at the time not 15, he was also sentanced to 15yrs not 13.

I dont know what "pscyosphrenic" means, neither does my dictionary. I feel for this young girl, it angers me. Brought to my country used and abused by a monster that was only here on the basis of a trust that had been extended to him. A trust that was thrown back in all our faces.
