PD Lawyer appointed as President of the High Court

In the usual exposition of the incomprehensible realpolitik of the Irish Judicial Appointments process, Mr. Justice Nicholas Kerns ( he of renown as the "increaser" of sentences as the presiding Judge in the Court of Criminal Appeal) has been appointed, from a puisine ( ordinary member) Judge of the Supreme Court, to the second most important judicial position in the State, namely, the President of the High Court. Mr. Justice Kerns, Nicky to his pals (not I, oh Lord, not I) , is in the virtuous position of having sided with the State in some of the most important cases in recent judicial history. Notwithstanding his record of descent in State matters( Oh hello), he is somewhat famous for deciding, in Horgan V. An Taoiseach and Ors., that in matters of International Law,and in this particular case, that the obligations of the State not to afford aggressors succor, that the rule of international law comes somewhere after Constitutional niceties; (the Oireachtas can, de facto, decide what actually constitutes war!!!!), Statute, and Ministerial Order!!

So, the Executive has, a very good lawyer, as President of the High Court, who, in consideration of his judicial history, is unlikely to afford them much trouble!!

    Ain't life great!!

Oh, one should say that Mr. Justice Kerns, was, without controversy, as a humble member of the senior bar, one of the founder members\supporters of the Progressive Democrats.

Did you lose a bet, a court case before him or something? you seem to be taking his appointment very badly.
Has he not been a Supreme court and previously a High court judge for a long number of years, so the moniker 'PD JUDGE' appears a tad disrespectful and embittered.

No, it's just factual methinks. He is a very good lawyer, but unlikely to upset the apple cart!!
