Leinster House is still a crypto British institution dripping with the hangovers of British law.

Cael,a chara,ar nós ceirnín briste.99% of the citizens of Ireland recognise Dáil éireann as the legitimate Parliament of the State. And what do you mean "hangovers of British Law"?
Do you think we should get rid of our Common Law sytem because of its British Origin?
Or should we go the whole way back to Brehon Law?

"OUR" common law system? An bhfuil tú ar meisce?

If we had enough intelligence to formulate the Brehon laws, I suppose we still have enough intelligence to formulate our own law - if only we had the will and the courage.

Nílim,bhí i doithin agam i rith an Nollaig!

Yes OUR common Law system,Ya know the one we`ve been using for the last 90 odd years(of our own accord). Its a pretty damn good system, just because it originated in Britain doesnt make it bad.Give me one reason why we should change it?Other than, its British!
Anyway to change is not practical, whos going to rerain the 8,000 Members of the Legal Profession?

Nah. Can't be arsed. I'd prefer to just delegate all legal authority to some unknown secret committee that claims to rule in my name and be the true governmental authority of the Republic.
But that's just my lazy side. Deep down I want an actual constituted assembly in a functioning democracy that, y'know, passes laws and stuff.

    Now,now,they`re a great bunch.

Can we not incorporate their Legal System,if it has chosen to be a good Legal system?
Must we invent our own?(America,Australia,Canada and New Zealand all have common Law Systems.)
Since we didnt invent the Parliamentary systems,do we have to start from scratch and think up a new form of government?

I suppose if Tony Blair made an official statement in the Commons that Cael had a right to life & that he wanted Cael to stay living, Cael would duly oblige & snuff himself.
