Gardai becoming an American style Police force?

In light of the Rossport protests, I believe that the level of force used there by members of the Gardai was a bit too much. Especially when they baton charged members of the Shell to Sea peaceful protesters on numerous occasions.

Where do the Gardai stand in relation to restraint? I think we need a major review of the way that they police protests, in light of the previous apparent Garda mishaps at Rossport.
