    judicial pay; conspiracy theory

is it tinfoil hat time for me???

just a thought that occurred to me, I'm
not normally one that is given to
    conspiracy theories but anyway, here
goes over the last 16 years the bulk of
appointments to the bench have been FF.
Now, as we know, the referendum on
judge's pay could be argued to be
unnecessary as it could have been legislated for and also, goes too far. It has
been reported that some judges may consider retirement if the amendment is
passed, which would lead to an
opportunity to get a good few FG/LAB
appointees on the bench. it's a bit far out I know, but still where
    shatter's involved........

    the fact remains

the judges are the second highest paid in the world

    in mickey mouse broke Ireland

dress it up any way you like

but the bottom line is money and manners

if they had a bit of manners and took the cuts like the general public had too, then they would not have this problem

... or they are trying to get us to note no to one referendum in the hope we vote no in the other too.

Judges have the most important position of all in Irish society; it is to defend us from our elected representatives.

For that; they fully deserve to be paid well.

Ms Bacik said that despite being a member of the legal profession she supported the proposal because it involved a rebalancing of power away from the judiciary and towards elected representatives.

Well when they start doing their job, we'll pay them lots, how's that?

The IMF\EU troika think that they are overpaid and some of their pay should be used to protect certain bankers from the consequences of their incompetent lending decisions.

That's fine and long overdue. A badly worded referendum that put the Executive in the position to bribe and threaten the Judiciary is not the way to do it though IMO.
