I saw no firing at them during the march* and I don't think the Saville Inquiry conclusively states that there was such firing.

However, I did see the Paras firing at and wounding Damian Bubbles Donaghy in William Street even before the march reached its destination and the full mayhem broke out.

I've always reckoned that shooting was intended to draw the IRA out into a pitched battle.

    * After the march had been broken up by the Paras coming into the Bogside firing like madmen and standing out in the open ground to do so, I was cowering behind a wall at the corner of Westland Street. At that stage - when the Paras had already done their worst - I saw no less a figure than Ivan Cooper coming along literally dragging an IRA man (I don't know whether PIRA or OIRA) with a rifle and pointing him at the Walls from where puffs of gunfire smoke appeared to be emanating.

Being of sound mind, I beat a swift retreat.

So basically, all SF reps in this State take their full salaries. They then donate all of that to the SF Party in Northern Ireland, who then pay wages to SF "employees" in this State.

Wonderful. Where is the saving to the taxpayer in all of this?

Also, this would mean that Irish taxpayers money is being transferred to the UK Exchequer via National Insurance contributions and Income Tax payment being made by SF employees in the North!

Will he only take the minimum wage for a pension in Northern Ireland?

Does Gerry Adams only take the minimum wage?

And will the foregone wage be returned to the taxpayer somehow, or written off against tax or be simply made into a political donation before he takes what little is left?

But in the end, how much money saved on Aras wages is worth electing McGuiness?

It will save the taxpayer nothing - if elected Martin McGuinness will be paid whatever the Government decides the salary will be. Then he will 'donate it to the Irish people' - whatever that means.

But it will cost the taxpayer the exact same whoever is in the Aras for the next seven years.

This was nothing but a populist stunt by the Shinners - and the gobshytes out there will fall for it as they always do when ever a cute hoor stroke is laid before them by any party or politician.

im interested to see how the money would be split up as ususally the shinners send the money to HQ.

I presume itll go to various charitities and the like but you never know there could be a "presidential fund" set up that groups could apply for once a years or so.

either way from a PR point of view its a blinder.

cant wait to see what micheal d and gay will say when the matter is broached with them.

anyone that says they cant live on less than the pres wage will be crucified.

So he's giving us back some of our own money and we're supposed to be grateful.

The other presidential candidates are giving the taxpayer ZERO back, so he's well ahead in my book

Indeed, a very good question, how is it no British soldier has been in front of the ICC at the Hague

Do you know how many mothers have been killed in your name?

How many fathers like Baha Mousa have been tortured to death in your name?

Do you know how many countless innocent civilians have been killed in your name with YOUR tax money. You paid for for this death and destruction, you are concerned about a death that happened 40 years ago but you seem less concerned about the very same thing happening NOW?

    Think about it...
