[Mary] McAleese, by now a former Today Tonight journalist, organised a meeting between Cronin and Charles Haughey, the Fianna Fail leader, who expressed pleasure and surprise that the programme was emerging from a “nest of Sticky vipers”.
The WPs biggest crime was to have eight TDs elected.

    interesting question.
would like to know the answer to this too.

the WP/OIRA story is so mired in secrecy, that i think we wont truely know the full story for another 30 odd years. As i said previously, many of the folks involved are still alive.

But the book sounds like a good start.

I believe Brian got some access to certain archives, but it was *very* difficult. I'm sure that if there are some interviews he will indicate what he was able to consult. But I believe is was a painstaking process. As they Sunday Times article shows the authors were able to weave a very intricate story that took years to compile. Needless to say that for people with an interest in leftist Ireland this book will be essential reading!
"The thing that always annoyed me about traditional Irish historiography was the paradox of its Anglocentrism. People are now prepared, I think, to confront the possibility that many Irish problems are, in a sense, indigenous to the Irish situation." Roy Foster (1989).

The article suggests that Joe Mulholland was strongly sympathetic to SFWP, although he did not become a member of the party.

I wonder if Eoghan Harris will have any response to this book?

thanks for the clarification on how difficult it was. fair play to them for perservering and trying to bring an aspect of Irish history to public.

it'll be a long long time before we know the real story - but at least this is a start.

and its an important part of Irish history - the WP and the OIRA were incredibly influential, despite their small size.

The Workers Party was an extreme right-wing party masquerading as a socialist party. They were vermin.

Except that the Workers Party were not Marxists, they were right-wing sheep in wolves' clothing.

From what I have heard its a great book but its a pity that the lawyers and editors "excluded" many facts due to the participants still being alive. looking forward to the book. Lobg overdue.
