Expect an awful lot of talking and no action.
Expect no priests or bishops to be be investigated by the DPP for allowing this to happen under their noses. Expect that no one will be charged for obstructing justice even though it is well known that bishops moved offenders from one parish to another.
Expect that the catholic church will still be allowed to run a huge majority of our schools, even though they have proved spectacularly that they should not be allowed within 10 miles of a single child.
And expect a large percentage of middle aged and elderly people to continue to attend mass and fill the baskets with money.

I think it would be unfair to brand all priests.

Does anybody know if the report will name anybody who abused?

on the website http://www.childabusecommission.ie/ right now

" There will be limited copies of the Commission's Report, in both hard and soft copy, available from the Ballroom on the ground floor of the Conrad Hotel, on Earlsfort Terrace, from 3 - 4pm on Wednesday 20th May. As there is a limited number of Reports available, they will be given out on a first come first served basis. Charges may apply.
Otherwise, to request a copy of the Commission's Report, please click here: Email link to request the Report"
WTF ? Ever heard of putting a copy on the web? How can there be limited numbers of soft copies?

A cynical post and yet probably true. Sad.

The deal that was done with the religious orders was and continues to be a disgrace. They should have been bankrupted and their property seized by the state. An excellent opportunity to take a lot of the schools in the country into direct ownership by the state has been missed.

The state too (and society at large) have a lot to answer for too. There's plenty of blame to spread around here.

    RTE REPORT

RTÉ News: Report to focus on institutional child abuse

It also states that the safety of children was not a priority for the Christian Brothers who ran the institutions.

The report follows ten years of work by the commission and dealt with thousands of complaints from former residents of predominantly Catholic institutions

The report says that the Christian Brothers Order was defensive in the way it responded to complaints and claims the order fails to accept any congregational responsibility for such abuse.

More allegations were made against the Christian Brothers than all of the other male orders combined.

The report does not identify respondents and even gives pseudonyms to those found guilty in a criminal trial

It states that physical punishment in Artane was excessive and children constantly felt under threat and were fearful.
