Was that specific meeting not being discussed on a different thread, Factorem? I think it was the one entitled 'The Pope comes to Ireland'? Alternatively, we can discuss it here. I, personally, would like to see the Pope make this whole affair a top priority. I don't want to see a pretty photo op, followed by the same carefully worded half-apology we are used to. I want to see senior clergy convened, serious reflection take place, and a serious proposal for dealing with abuse (past/present/future) stated in unambiguous terms.

What do you mean by the phrase "middle class"?[/QUOT

    For a beginning:-

    Anyone who plays golf.
Anyone who plays or follows rugby.
Anyone who likes English Literature - especially one who quotes Shakespeare.
Anyone who was educated by Jesuits or Benedictines - Religious Orders of snobs.
Anyone who votes for the SDLP or the Alliance Party or the Eire Labour Party.
Anyone who was educated at Maynooth.

There is only one way the Vatican can come up smelling of roses at this stage and thats by instructing the Bishops to hand over files to the police services in both the North and South on paedophile priests.

Anything else is going to look dodgy. The one thing the church can do to get its neck out of the noose on this one is to turf out or purge itself of the paedo class which means becoming temporarily much smaller but restoring faith among the ordinary believers that the church always does the right thing after a century or so of deep thought.

It has no other options if it wants to move forward.

I think you should start a new thread.

Glennshane, you badly need a holiday. I suggest Canterbury. There's a lovely cathedral there

    A reasonable enough suggestion.

The same to you. What right have you to defend the Catholic Church? Leave that to me and to people like me. We are real Catholics. You are just a watered down Eire Catholic who is soft on Prods.

So, as far as you are concerned, Glennshane, the term "middle class" covers anyone who indulges in your pet-hates!

I have one relative who is both 100% working class and also has the largest book collection of anyone I know. His son, brought up 100% working class, holds a senior position at Maynooth. Are they traitors to their class? Aberrations?

The world is not black and white, Glennshane!!

I cannot afford one. I am a working class victim of tyranny who has not yet received compensation. How much longer will I have to wait?
