Germany wins World War 1(French worst case scenario) Ireland becomes Austro-Hungarian

9 - Germany wins World War I(French worst case scenario) Strange Maps

What would Europe have looked like, had Imperial Germany won World War One? This image is taken off a French magazine at the start of the war, painting an exaggerated picture of German (and Austro-Hungarian) land-grabs in a Europe dominated by the victorious Central powers.

In this Europe, ‘grande Allemagne’ has gobbled up all of Luxembourg and Belgium, most of France (leaving only a mini-French state around Biarritz) and extends far into Eastern Europe. Great Britain is a German colony, Ireland a dependency of Austro-Hungary, which rules most of southern and eastern Europe.

Interesting find. I think it was first published in Britain during the war, and afterwards in France.

Ireland would still have been ruled by one of Victoria's Grandchildren.

I find it very hard to believe Germany would have allowed so much territory to be incorporated into their weaker Austro-Hungarian allies.

Certainly would have made for a simplified UEFA Cup and Eurovision - Switzerland, Norway and Romania v the Reichs! I suppose Norway would still have got nul points.

Interesting propaganda aimed at the home front. Similar to the post world war three scenarios used to scare Americans during the 60's and 70's.

First published in Britain during the war. So much for that map.

Had the Gerries won we'd be a reasonably independent(as independent as Finland post WWII) kingdom as would Scotland and Wales. We'd probably have a German base given our location but things would have been fairly OK.

I am of this opinion because is somewhat mirrors what the Germans did in Russia after the Brest-Litovsk. Austria Hungary would have been banjaxed even if they'd won. I'd suspect it would have collapsed with Austria coming into the reich and ungary breaking off.

I'm willing to put my head on the block and say as a result, no WWII, no holocaust and a much more united Europe with democracy forestalled for a few decades.

I think that if the US hadn't entered the war both Britain and Germany would have faced economic collapse and the war would have ground to a halt, followed by some more evenhanded peace agreement.
